Depth of investigation
“How much I can go deep with a penetrometer”.
Arrived at this question, as usual, I can never answer.
Unfortunately I always have to remember that “it depends on the consistency of the soil”. I can do tests of 15m with a 30kg dynamic penetrometer in clayey silts, or stop at 2m in the gravels and torrent pebbles with a super heavy 73kg.
Indicatively I can hypothesize that: with the DL10 and DM30 10m of depth can be reached, while for a DPH50 and DPSH63 I can reach 20m.
Let us remember that the deeper you go, unless you use the coating, the more the friction along the rod’s battery can heavily distort the detection of the blows.
